Homespun felt flower embellies...

...wishing for some sunshine so it feels warmer than it really is today. I hope you all are having a great weekend in the midst of this chilly winter season.

I just wanted to share one of my favorite addictions of late... making die cut felt flowers as embellishments for cards and gifts. I've been using Spellbinder's Shapeabilities Flower Creations 3 to make all of these guys... such a fun set.

Some cards that I've made with them...

And a little gift set that I put together for the silent auction at my daughter's school fundraiser.

To make this project:
BOX
1) purchase an unfinished wooden box at your local craft store
2) a. paint with acrylic paint  b. sand when dry for vintage look
3) adhere patterned paper to the top and inside of box
4) embellish with felt flowers and and pearls

CARDS
1) cut cards from cardstock (or buy pre-made card bases)
2) a. cut patterned paper slightly smaller than size of card  b. using same acrylic paint that you used to paint your box, paint around edge of patterned paper  c. stitch around edge of patterned paper  d. adhere to card
3) adhere felt flowers to card

EMBELLISHMENTS
1) select felt color (I simply used inexpensive craft felt from Michael's)
2) cut 2-4 layers with die (various sizes)
3) a. stack layers as desired  b.  fasten by sewing in middle with floss
4) finish off by sewing on button
5) adhere to card with leaf or leaves using wet glue or glue dots

To create this card:
1) a. cut card from kraft to 5.5 in x 4.25 in   b. ink edges
2) a. adhere layered strips of patterned paper to card  b. sew along edge of strips using various machine stitches
3) a. stamp sentiment on die cut  b. ink around edges  c. adhere with pop dots
4) tie ribbon and burlap string on card
Supplies:
Paper goodies: My Mind's Eye Be-Loved  Paper Kit

Up for a crafty challenge?

Today over at Jacksonbelle Embellishments our challenge for the week is to make a project using unconventional designer paper... for instance make a masculine birthday card from Halloween paper, etc. I'm often guilty of doing something like this because I tend to use whatever is laying on my desk, regardless if its just paper still out from Christmas (yeah, I'm NOT a cleaner upper)... if I need a birthday card and its laying there, then it gets used:) Here is my card... a birthday card using Imaginisce's Sweet Cheri Collection... a collection most defiantly intended for Valentine's Day usage, but it also make a perfectly suitable birthday card. I also added some peach May Arts ribbon (big surprise there;) and some Zva pearls as accents. Got this little Rachael Anne Miller stamp set (just $6.49-DEAL!) and I use it all of the time. If you new to stamping or card making this lil' sentiment pack a great place to start;)

I'd love for you to play along! All you have to do is upload your take on this week's challenge to your SCS or PCP gallery using the keyword JBE0909 or post a comment on the JBE blog linking to your blog.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

It is amazing what the kiddos absorb...

... Campbell was working on learning our phone number last week, and tonight we learned that Hadley has been learning it too. As we quizzed Campbell on the last four digits at the dinner table, Hadley (without hesitation) just spits them out before Campbell could even begin to open her mouth... amazing:) Brian and I just chuckled and scratched our heads. I love these moments.

Today I thought I'd play along with this week's Tuesday Trigger over at Moxie Fab World. Isn't this trigger just gorgeous?

Here is a little homespun valentine inspired by it...

Just a quick share today... thank you kindly for stopping in:)

We are posting a bonus poem in honor of this hop as well as Valentine's Day!  "How do I Love Thee?" by Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.
I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for right.
I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

This poem inspired me to make a few cards for my Valentines...

If you choose to join us by scrapping a layout, card or project that uses inspiration from the poem and you link it to Scrap that Poetry's blog, you will get 5 extra chances to win the gift certificate. A Good Weekend for the Robinson Family...

...we may be on our last box of pull ups... ever!!!! This is nearly as good as the day that I cleaned all of the bottles out of my kitchen cabinets:)

To celebrate this grand occasion, I'm focusing my Card and Page Monday on my little Hadley.  I didn't have a lot of time to put these together so I started by making a sketch...
... and added some fab Valentine goodies from My Little Yellow Bicycle that I won in one of Cath's challenges over at Moxie Fab World... thanks Cath! Don't you just love how easy it is to use Valentine's Day stuff on your daughter's or grandaughter's layouts as a way to reinforce how much you love them?

... and voila and real quick and simple card and page:) I hope you enjoy!  Have an awesome week (I know I will with 4 less diapers to change a day:)

Scrap that Poetry... Challenge #8

Its time for another challenge over at Scrap that Poetry! Join me this week as we scrap Robert Frost's poem Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening...
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

This one was so easy to create...it really just flowed onto the page. Don't you wish that happened every time you sat down to create something???  I do, it usually is takes me hours, but this one was done in minutes... some days it just all comes together.
Thanks for visiting, I'd love to see your take on this poem, and its easy to play along... just leave us a comment on at STP's blog linking to your blog. Have a great weekend!

Card and Page Monday... We LOVE Snow

Happy Monday everyone! A snow page to share today...very timely with the weather that most of us have been encountering lately. Yes, we LOVE snow around here... I know that sentiment isn't always the most popular when it is 3 degrees outside, but my kids and I have so much fun building "snowgirls" (daddy is so out numbered around here... he'd have to make four "snowboys" just to balance things out...ha ha). Anyway our snowgirl is always named Dora (Hadley's contribution:) It is all great fun and memories that I cherish..

After hours of exhausting snow play, Campbell drops down on the snow and I snapped this near angelic photo. If only she were always this peaceful:)

Some page details...

I used light pink tissue paper (recycled from Christmas), leftover patterned paper from the layout and a Sizzix die (thanks Lisa for that fun gift:) to make these super girly snowflakes. I love handmade embellies... don't you? Its the perfect finishing touch that truly customizes a page layout.

While working on this one, Campbell asked me to make her a card "just as pretty" as the scrapbook page that she could give to her sister. Since Hadley always calls Campbell "my friend, my best friend" I thought this card would be appropriate.

Thanks for visiting today. I hope you have a great week!

Products: patterned paper (Christmastime:Christmas Angel Flourish by Reminisce, Sugar Rush: Gummy Bears & Airhead by Basic Grey, Cupid: Hearts Bloom by Pink Paislee, Jolly by Golly: Silly Chilly by Cosmo Cricket); other paper (kraft by Paper Reflections); floss (white/DMC); thread (silver/Coats & Clark); ink (Chestnut Roan/Colorbox Chalk Ink), letter stickers (pink/Making Memories and white/GCD Studios); rub ons (White Eskimo Kisses/Basic Grey); glitter (Icicle Stickles)

Reasons for Mail...The Best Thing to Be

Happy Friday Everyone! Just dropping by with this week's Reason for Mail...

I think the most valuable thing that anyone can offer another person is the gift of friendship... it is a gift that doesn't cost money and transcends any means or status. So this week I will send this card to a woman... my dear friend who has come closer than any other person to being a sister to me. Do you have a friend like that? Tell her... send her a card:)

Inside reads: Thanks for being my friend... my best friend.
To create this card:
1) cut card from cardstock
2) fold and pleat cream and pink ribbon along bottom of card ( I used staples to hold the ribbon on the card)
3) a. hand cut patterned paper strip  b. adhere to card  c. sew along top with zig zag stitch
4) a. stamp sentiment on kraft b. hand cut banner  c. ink around edges  d. adhere to card  e. add button
Supplies:
Patterned paper: Imagine a Forest "Get the Camera" by My Little Shoebox
Cardstock: Bazzill Basics French Vanilla, Paper Reflections Kraft
Ribbon: Cream and Dusty Rose Decorative 7/8" Satin Ribbon by Hobby Lobby Inc.
Clear Stamps: Strictly Sentiments by Renaissance by Design
Ink: Palette Burnt Umber Hybrid Ink
Other: cream thread and pink button

I'll leave you with one of my favorite passages on friendship...
My friends have made the story of my life. In a thousand ways they have turned my limitations into beautiful privileges, and enabled me to walk serene and happy in the shadow cast by my deprivation.
-Helen Keller

Isn't that beautiful? So true of friendship, so universal. Thanks for visiting & have a wonderful weekend:)

Card and Page Monday... Sending a Little Love

Good Monday everyone! Just dropping in with a Card and Page post for you. This page was totally inspired by the darling photo of my daughter wearing her favorite sweater...

Journaling reads: "Remember when you said: I'm going to put my hood up so the rest of my body doesn't get cold." LOVE May 2009

And after making this page, I put together a card with my left over ribbon and embelies... and boy am I glad I did because it was my first card ever published in Paper Crafts Magazine...you can find it on page 69 of the January/February 2010 issue (insert big smile here)! What a total surprise and thrill for me... :)

Well all, thanks so much for stopping in today!  I hope you all have a good one:)
